A friend of mine is going through a bit of an identity crisis. The problem is that this person identifies so stronly with his online persona, and has so little ofline reinforcement of who he really is, that he has lost his way. So I researched some meaningful quotes about identity for him to read. I hope this helps.

Young people, who are still uncertain of their identity, often try on a succession of masks in the hope of finding the one which suits them the one, in fact, which is not a mask.

Your identity and your success go hand in hand. Many people sacrifice their identities by not doing what they really want to do. And that's why they're not successful.
Lila Swell

An identity would seem to be arrived at by the way in which the person faces and uses his experience.

I believe that man is in the last resort so free a being that his right to be what he believes himself to be cannot be contested.

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.

By writing I create an identity for myself. Without it I wouldn't feel being anybody, thus a personality. - It's not as much a question of self-expression as a need of finding yourself.
Pentti Saarikoski

“Perhaps it's impossible to wear an identity without becoming what you pretend to be.”
Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game

“We know what we are, but not what we may be.”
William Shakespeare

“Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life, but define yourself.”
Harvey Fierstein

“It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

“When you meet a man who is broken, pick him up and carry him. When you meet a woman who’s broken, put her all into your arms. Cause we don’t know where we come from … we don’t know where we are. ”
Laurie Anderson

“Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is illusion.”
